Another thing in light of the discussions about ableism w Nico and in Solangelo in general I think it’s important for everyone to note Nico is canonically disabled-he has ptsd, episodes, ect he’s portrayed as being actively mentally ill-and a lot if not most of the ableism cited does apply to that. While I and many fans do think of him as physically disabled it’s disingenuous to frame it as an argument over hcs-ableism is ableism and Nico like a vast majority of the cast are disabled and there does need to be sensitive writing when writing him it only in a relationship but a relationship with a healer character especially when the savior archetype is so prevalent in fanon (and is a an incredibly hurtful and ableist trope). I understand that many lgbt+ people enjoy the savior archetype and see a lot of wish fulfillment in being saved by love but it’s important to note how Nico’s disabled identity intersects here-while the trope may be fulfilling to you to many disabled people it’s a tool not just of ableist propaganda but oppression. There are ways to write their dynamic but you do need to do the research and the work. If you do not avoid this trope the fact of the matter is what you’re writing is ableist and people will be hurt by it. If you cannot do the research a quick avoidance is Will not being Nico’s healer outside of extreme situations-and to acknowledge the importance of other relationships in his life outside of Will.
